Program Information
The Sunshine Parenting Program (SPP) is a Peer-led 6-week group workshop aimed at bringing parents together in a friendly and understanding environment to share and discuss issues impacting their early parenting experience. This program is for mothers or birthing parents aged 18+, who are currently in the postnatal period with a baby under 12 months of age at the time of referral.
This program is inclusive of all mothers or birthing parents who may be experiencing some challenges with the adjustment to parenting, or their mental health and wellbeing, or both. Participants can self-refer or be referred by a health professional. You do not need a mental health care plan, or diagnosis, or health professional referral, to join the program.
The program embraces the experiences of emotional wellbeing challenges that are often associated with parenting using a parent-centred approach. SPP is founded on a strengths-based and re(dis)covery-oriented model of care to establish parenting confidence and self-esteem.
The program runs for 6-weeks and is facilitated by experienced perinatal peer workers who have a lived experience of challenges in the perinatal period. You will be provided with a program workbook each week which will guide the weekly content. Additionally, each week has a specific theme as outlined here:
Welcome to our circle of sunshine!
Understanding your experience
Navigating relationship changes
Caring for your baby’s needs
Caring for you IS caring for your family
Connections and celebrations!
Program funding and data collection
This program is funded through the Primary Health Network (PHN) which allows Peach Tree to provide the program to the community free of charge. As a requirement of that funding, the Sunshine Parenting Program is evaluated based on de-identified participant data that is collected on a voluntary basis, in the form of two participant surveys. This survey is sent out by SMS or email prior to commencing the program, and in the week prior to/or after completion of the program.
This information will be stored securely, as per our Privacy Policy, and will be available to selected staff members involved in the intake and management of this service. Your information will also be disclosed to the PHN, as funders of this service. The PHN will use this information for program management, quality improvement, as well as monitoring service delivery. Your information will also be visible on a database that the Head to Health team will have access to if service navigation and referral assistance is required. Non identifiable information will be used in planning service improvements and conducting research.
